Presented by Little Black Dress, Ladies-in-Waiting is a darkly comic play about the legacy of Henry VIII's six wives. Cloistered together in limbo, they wait for their husband and in some cases executioner, to finally kick the bucket and join them. Each wife gives voice to her own legacy; defending their actions during their lives, describing their relationship with Henry, and setting records straight. At times vicious, past regrets and deep seated anger come to a boil in this fierce female ensemble. While the script can feel repetitive at times and prescriptive, there are plenty of fun moments between these dynamic women to keep the audience interested. Lise Mahler was electric as the cold and calculating Anne Boleyn. Norah Smith was charming as the youthful Catherine Howard. Jan Kudelka, who sometimes feels like a caricature, has fantastic timing and anchors the room. If you want to see women of different generations duke it out over their almost dead husband, Ladies-in-Waiting is the show to see.
