Fringe Blog: The No Bull$#!% History of Canada - Part 4

Keeping up with the Joneses
Part 4
by Kyle Allatt

Okay, let’s just get this out of the way.  Your city smells funny.  I understand that garbage is going to stink, and most especially in the summer, but this is nuts.  And this is also coming from a guy that was in town during your last 2 garbage strikes. I don’t know what the hell is going on here, but someone needs to fix it.  Tweet me when y’all get that done.

Apart from the funk, Toronto thus far has been, well,  enjoyable.  My first day in I dropped by the residence of Matt Jones and David Jones, the guys I’m staying with.  They were already on their 3rd bottle of Dan Aykroyd’s Cabernet Sauvignon Blanc and I can personally report that as insane as that man is, he makes a damn fine bottle of wine.

I bleached my hair (and my eyebrows) and was walking around town wearing a fat suit and getting yelled at by passing Torontonians.

It’s good to hang out with the Joneses again.  Last year I was here at the Toronto Fringe playing Mayor Rob Ford in Matt Jones’ adaptation of Dario Fo’s The Accidental Death of an Anarchist.  I’m sure we’ve got a picture of that somewhere.  I bleached my hair (and my eyebrows) and was walking around town wearing a fat suit and getting yelled at by passing Torontonians.  I’m not sure why people couldn’t understand that a man dressed up like Ford probably isn’t a Ford supporter.

The Joneses are just good people.  Plenty of food and drink gets shoved down your gullet when you chill with them.  Last night there was a family BBQ happening at their folks place up in North York, and I was just invited to it like it was ridiculous for me not to be there.

Our show thus far has been rocking pretty hard, if not with a full V8 engine, then at least with a solid 4-stroke 500cc Twin-Cylinder Yamaha Banshee. And that sumbitch cooks, I can tell you. Crowds have been pretty solid, even for our Friday 1PM show and we have some great reviews from the Torontoist and Mooney on Theatre.  If it’s not too gauche to do so, I’ll have my producer slap some links to those at the end of this puppy.

Still haven’t had a chance to see many shows yet, but that will be rectified soon and then I’ll slap up some capsule reviews for y’all.  But let me tell you at least that I’ve heard GREAT things about The No Bull$#!% History of Canada.  Not only is it funny and informative, but the guy in it is sexy as hell, and if you’re a hot woman you should see the show, go out for a drink with him after and then totally make out.

The No Bull$#!% History of Canada continues Tuesday July 10th @ 10:15PM Venue #11 Passe Muraille Backspace, 16 Ryerson Avenue, tickets $10.
