TICK AT THE TORONTO FRINGE!
Ten-year-old Tickailia ‘Tick’ Summers is convinced that City cost saving measures amount to a war on kids. Closing hockey rinks? Getting rid of the zoo? Where are kids like her supposed to go? When her beloved local library is slated to be closed, it’s the last straw. Tick decides to lead a revolution against adult rule! With her friends and ambition, Tick is unstoppable. But will she go too far…?
This comedy for the whole family is perfect for ages 8 - 12, and with sharp and witty writing TICK is fun for teens and adults too! VueWeekly called it a Top Pick of the Edmonton Fringe and gave it 5 stars, while the Edmonton Journal loved the ‘5 Star Script’.
Writer Matt MacKenzie won the Alberta Playwriting Competition with his play Sia, a 2010 Toronto Fringe hit with critics and audiences, recently given a world premiere in Toronto by Cahoots Theatre. Matt was also the Tarragon Theatre’s Urjo Kareda Emerging Artist for 2011/12. Director Jajube Mandiela will be recognizable from her eight seasons on ‘Degrassi’ (MuchMusic), A Midsummer Night’s Dream(Canadian Stage Dream in High Park) and the Dora-nominated Binti’sJourney (Theatre Direct).
